Understanding UL 2218 impact ratings

Shingles are tested by dropping steel balls of increasing size from increasing heights. The class corresponds to the largest ball size a shingle survives without cracking, backing through, or de-granulating.

Class 1

1.25″ ball

Basic impact resistance.

Class 2

1.5″ ball

Slight upgrade over Class 1.

Class 3

1.75″ ball

Standard architectural shingles.

Class 4

2″ ball

Hail-rated. Typical for carrier discounts in OK.

Insurance note

Most major Oklahoma carriers (State Farm, Farmers, Shelter, Allstate) offer reduced premiums when your roof is installed with a Class 4 shingle. Exact discount varies — ask your agent and we'll provide the UL certificate with your install documentation.

Two warranties cover every install

The manufacturer covers the material; we cover the workmanship. If granules shed early or a factory defect shows up, the manufacturer handles it. If a flashing we installed leaks, that's on us — for life. Neither warranty costs you anything beyond the install.
